The Maryborough Therapeutic Justice Partnership is an integrated service partnership between Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre (LCCLC) and Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS).
The project aims to increase access to justice for vulnerable people in the Central Goldfields Shire who are in contact with the criminal justice system.
A social worker from MDHS and a lawyer from LCCLC work closely together to identify clients with complex legal and health needs at Maryborough Magistrates’ Court, and to link these clients into appropriate legal, health and social services. By addressing the underlying issues that are contributing to a client’s offending behaviour, the project aims to improve the client’s wellbeing and connections to community, reducing the likelihood that they will re-offend in future.
The project lawyer is based at MDHS three days per week and also provides legal advice and education to MDHS staff and clients, increasing their capacity to identify legal issues and seek early assistance.
